ZYTC Alloy Successfully Completes L605 Round Bar Export to India – AMS 5759, TUV Approved

2026-08-21

ZYTC Alloy is proud to announce the successful completion and delivery of a L605 (Alloy 25 / Haynes 25) round Bar order to India. The shipment, consisting of L605 round bars in 32mm diameter with random length delivery, was manufactured in strict accordance with AMS 5759N and underwent rigorous third-party TUV inspection prior to shipment. Samples were cut and sent to India for independent testing, and the L605 products passed all tests with full approval before final delivery.

About L605 (Alloy 25 / Haynes 25)

L605, also known as Haynes® 25, Udimet® L605, UNS R30605, and W.Nr. 2.4964, is a cobalt-based superalloy that delivers exceptional mechanical strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. As a Cobalt-Chromium-Tungsten solid-solution strengthened alloy, L605 combines excellent high-temperature strength with outstanding resistance to oxidizing environments up to 1093°C (2000°F) for prolonged exposures.

L605 is non-magnetic and offers good fatigue resistance, galling resistance, and sulfidation resistance, making it one of the most versatile and trusted cobalt alloys in the specialty metals industry.

Chemical Composition of L605 (AMS 5759)

The chemical composition of L605 is precisely controlled under AMS 5759 to deliver its superior high-temperature properties:

Element Symbol Weight % (Min) Weight % (Max)
Cobalt Co Balance Balance
Chromium Cr 19.00 21.00
Tungsten W 14.00 16.00
Nickel Ni 9.00 11.00
Manganese Mn 1.00 2.00
Iron Fe 3.00
Carbon C 0.05 0.15
Silicon Si 0.40
Phosphorus P 0.04
Sulfur S 0.03

This carefully balanced cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten formulation gives L605 its renowned high-temperature strength and resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation.

Mechanical Properties of L605 (AMS 5759)

L605 exhibits outstanding mechanical properties that make it the material of choice for high-temperature structural applications:

Property Value
Density 9.07 – 9.27 g/cm³
Melting Range 1330 – 1410°C (2426 – 2570°F)
Tensile Strength (Ultimate) 896 – 1240 MPa (130 – 180 ksi)
Yield Strength (0.2% Offset) 379 – 552 MPa (55 – 80 ksi)
Elongation at Break Up to 60%
Hardness (Rockwell B) 80 – 100 HRB
Modulus of Elasticity 225 GPa (32.6 × 10³ ksi)
Thermal Conductivity 9.4 W/m·K

L605 maintains high strength up to 816°C (1500°F) and offers excellent oxidation resistance up to 1093°C (2000°F).

Applications of L605

L605 finds extensive use across multiple demanding industries:

  • Aerospace & Gas Turbines: Turbine blades, vanes, combustion chambers, flame holders, liners, combustors, transition ducts, afterburner liners, and gas turbine rotors

  • Industrial Gas Turbines: Hot-section components, seals, and pressure-containing parts

  • Medical Industry: Surgical implants, heart valves, and surgical fixation wire (biocompatible and non-magnetic)

  • Power Generation: Land-based turbines and high-temperature furnace equipment

  • Automotive: Turbocharger components, exhaust systems, and high-performance engine parts

  • Petrochemical & Industrial: Valves, piping, furnace hardware, and high-temperature tooling

L605 vs Alloy 188 – Key Differences

While both L605 and Alloy 188 are cobalt-based superalloys with excellent high-temperature performance, they differ significantly in composition and application:

Feature L605 (UNS R30605) Alloy 188 (UNS R30188)
Cobalt Base Balance Balance
Chromium (Cr) 19 – 21% 20 – 24%
Nickel (Ni) 9 – 11% 20 – 24%
Tungsten (W) 14 – 16% 13 – 16%
Lanthanum (La) None 0.02 – 0.12%
Oxidation Resistance Up to ~1093°C Enhanced (La addition)
High-Temp Strength Higher under short-term loading Consistent ductility after prolonged exposure
Wear/Galling Resistance Excellent Good
Hot Corrosion Resistance Good Excellent (enhanced by La)

Key Insight: L605 typically exhibits higher tensile and yield strengths under short-term loading at elevated temperatures, while Alloy 188 retains ductility more consistently after prolonged high-temperature exposure. Alloy 188's lanthanum addition gives it a slight edge in long-term oxidation and hot corrosion resistance. For applications requiring excellent wear resistance, galling resistance, and cost-effectiveness with proven reliability, L605 remains the preferred choice.
