ZYTC Alloy Completes Successful Export of Alloy 263 Forged Block to Japan – Manufactured to AMS 5886 Standards
ZYTC Alloy is proud to announce the successful completion and delivery of an Alloy 263 Forged Block order to a valued customer in Japan. The block, measuring 54 × 484 × 600 mm, was produced in strict accordance with AMS 5886, the aerospace-grade specification for Alloy 263 Bars, forgings, rings, and stock for forgings.
Alloy 263, also known as NIMONIC® 263, UNS N07263, and Werkstoff Nr. 2.4650, is an age-hardenable nickel-cobalt-chromium-molybdenum superalloy designed to deliver excellent high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and fabricability. It is a precipitation-hardenable alloy that combines very good aged strength with superior forming and welding characteristics in the annealed condition. Alloy 263 is easier to form and weld than many other superalloys such as Waspaloy or Rene 41, while maintaining excellent intermediate temperature ductility.

Mechanical Properties of Alloy 263
| Condition | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Yield Strength 0.2% (MPa) | Elongation % | Hardness |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Annealed | 800 – 1000 | – | – | – |

Alloy 263 exhibits a density of 8.36 g/cm³, a melting point of 1325°C, and a modulus of elasticity of 222.5 kN/mm². The alloy offers high strength at temperatures up to 816°C and excellent oxidation resistance up to 982°C. In the aged condition, Alloy 263 typically achieves a tensile strength of approximately 900–1050 MPa with good ductility. Recommended heat treatment for Alloy 263 includes solution treatment at 1150°C followed by water quenching, and aging at 800°C for 8 hours with air cooling.
Applications of Alloy 263
Alloy 263 was originally developed for aerospace engine applications but has since expanded into industrial gas turbines, advanced ultra-supercritical (A-USC) power plants, and other high-temperature environments. Typical applications for Alloy 263 include:
-
Aircraft engine cases and structural components
-
Industrial heating systems exposed to high temperatures and oxidizing atmospheres
Alloy 263 vs. Alloy 230 – Key Differences
While both Alloy 263 and Alloy 230 are nickel-based superalloys used in high-temperature applications, they differ significantly in composition, strengthening mechanisms, and performance characteristics.
The fundamental difference between these two nickel alloys lies in their strengthening mechanisms: Alloy 263 derives its strength from gamma-prime (γ′) precipitation hardening, while Alloy 230 is strengthened through solid-solution strengthening with tungsten and molybdenum. This makes Alloy 263 generally stronger at intermediate temperatures but somewhat more challenging to fabricate than solid-solution strengthened alloys like Alloy 230. However, Alloy 263 offers superior weldability compared to many other precipitation-hardened superalloys.
