ZYTC Alloy Completes Export of AMS 5663 Alloy 718 Round Bars to the United Kingdom
ZYTC Alloy has successfully completed an export order of Alloy 718 round Bars to the United Kingdom, manufactured and certified to AMS 5663. The material was supplied in multiple specifications, forged, solution treated, aged, and turned to final dimensions. Every batch passed through our standardized, process-driven production and inspection workflow before final release to the customer.
With 20 years of export experience in nickel-based alloys, cobalt-based alloys, and titanium alloys, ZYTC Alloy operates its own independent laboratory capable of testing chemical composition, mechanical properties, impact energy, and high-temperature performance. The company holds ISO 9001 and AS9120 certifications.
What Is Alloy 718?
Alloy 718 (also known as Inconel 718, UNS N07718, W.Nr. 2.4668) is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium alloy strengthened by niobium, molybdenum, titanium, and aluminum. It delivers exceptionally high yield, tensile, and creep-rupture properties at temperatures up to approximately 700°C (1290°F), combined with excellent corrosion resistance in H₂S and CO₂ environments. Alloy 718 can also perform at cryogenic temperatures down to −200°C (−330°F).

AMS 5662 vs. AMS 5663: What Is the Difference?
Both AMS 5662 and AMS 5663 cover Alloy 718 bars, forgings, and rings — but they specify fundamentally different delivery conditions.
| Parameter | AMS 5662 | AMS 5663 |
|---|---|---|
| Heat Treatment | Solution treated only | Solution treated + precipitation aged |
| Hardness (typical) | ≤ 28 HRC (annealed) | 36–44 HRC (aged) |
| Yield Strength (min) | Lower (annealed condition) | ≥ 150 ksi (1034 MPa) |
| Machinability | Superior (softer condition) | Reduced (high-strength condition) |
| Best Use Case | Facilitates machining before aging | Ready-to-use high-strength components |
| Solution Treatment Temp | 1725–1850°F (940–1010°C) | 1700–1850°F (927–1010°C) + age |
| Aging Cycle | — | 720°C / 8h + 620°C / 8h |
The key difference is heat treatment condition: AMS 5662 is the softer, solution-treated state, while AMS 5663 is the fully aged, precipitation-hardened condition ready for service. Many manufacturers prefer to machine components in the AMS 5662 condition and then age them to AMS 5663 specifications to extend tool life and reduce machining costs.
