Introduction to Inconel 600

Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium-iron based solid solution strengthened alloy, known for its excellent high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance. It is a non-precipitation hardening alloy, optimized through the solid solution strengthening mechanism of nickel-chromium-iron, making it suitable for use in various harsh environments. As a versatile nickel-based alloy, Inconel 600 is widely used in aerospace, chemical, energy, and nuclear industries, favored for its stable performance and reliable quality.

Inconel 600 Chemical Composition (ASTM B167 Standard)

The chemical composition of Inconel 600 is strictly controlled to ensure its excellent performance. The typical chemical composition (wt.%) is as follows: Nickel (Ni) ≥72.0%, Chromium (Cr) 14.0~17.0%, Iron (Fe) 6.0~10.0%, Carbon (C) ≤0.15%, Manganese (Mn) ≤1.0%, Silicon (Si) ≤0.5%, Copper (Cu) ≤0.5%, and Sulfur (S) ≤0.015%. Each element plays a key role: Nickel serves as the matrix, providing high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance; Chromium enhances oxidation and acid corrosion resistance; Iron stabilizes the austenitic structure and reduces costs; and other elements are strictly controlled to avoid adverse effects on the alloy’s performance.

Inconel 600 Mechanical Properties

Inconel 600 exhibits excellent mechanical properties at room temperature and high temperatures, making it suitable for various demanding applications. The typical mechanical properties (annealed state) are: Tensile Strength ≥550 MPa, Yield Strength ≥240 MPa, Elongation ≥30%, and Hardness (HB) 150~220. For cold-worked Inconel 600 (30% deformation), the mechanical properties are further improved: Tensile Strength 900~1100 MPa, Yield Strength 700~850 MPa, Elongation 12~20%, and Hardness (HB) 250~350. At high temperatures, Inconel 600 also maintains good strength: tensile strength ≥170 MPa at 815°C and ≥70 MPa at 980°C. Additionally, Inconel 600 has excellent cold and hot working properties and welding performance, facilitating further processing and application.
