Invar 36 is a nickel-iron, low-expansion Alloy that contains 36% nickel and possesses a rate of thermal expansion approximately one-tenth that of carbon steel. This unique characteristic makes Invar 36 the material of choice for applications where dimensional stability is critical. Invar 36 maintains nearly constant dimensions over the range of normal atmospheric temperatures and has a low coefficient of expansion from cryogenic temperatures to about +500°F (260°C).
Invar 36 also retains good strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures, making it suitable for a variety of low-temperature and low-expansion applications. The alloy is strong, tough, ductile, and possesses a useful degree of corrosion resistance.

ZYTC Alloy recently completed a custom Invar 36 capillary tube order for a US-based customer. The Invar 36 capillary tube specifications were: 4.3(-0.02) × 4.1(-0.02) × 4.8(+0.03) mm, supplied in the machined delivery condition.
