Alloy Steel AISI 4140 (AMS 6349/ AMS 6382)

Alloy Steel AISI 4140 (AMS 6349/ AMS 6382)

    About Alloy

4140 alloy is a versatile and widely used alloy steel known for its robust mechanical properties and adaptability across various applications. It is characterized by its composition, which typically includes around 0.38-0.43% carbon, 0.80-1.10% chromium, and 0.15-0.25% molybdenum. This alloy is designed to offer a balanced combination of strength, toughness, and hardness, making it suitable for a range of demanding conditions.

4140 steel is commonly employed in the manufacturing of high-stress components such as gears, shafts, and axles, where its strength and durability are essential. Its high tensile strength, which can be enhanced through heat treatment processes such as quenching and tempering, allows it to withstand significant mechanical loads and stresses. The alloy's chromium content provides excellent hardenability and resistance to wear, while molybdenum enhances its strength at elevated temperatures and improves its resistance to fatigue.

In addition to automotive and industrial applications, 4140 steel is used in the aerospace and defense industries for components that require high strength and impact resistance. Its versatility extends to applications in construction equipment, oil and gas industry components, and various types of machinery that demand a high level of performance and reliability. The alloy's ability to maintain its mechanical properties under challenging conditions makes it a preferred material for critical and high-performance applications.
